I tip my hat to you
I only realised that his other eye was wonky while I was browsing through these pictures :( Some things just are more visible on camera, but the damn preview screen is too small to notice these things while actually taking the photos. Thenagain I can't imagine how I could have taken any photos back in the day of actual film cameras... I know I would have wasted so much film XD
So a lot of the pictures I took I just had to trash right away since it was just too in-your-face. These remaining photos hide it a bit, so they'll have to do while I build up a better portfolio for Phoenix. But! The thing that shows up so much better IRL about this boy, his adorable smile, I was finally able to capture on digital film :3
I actually first cut this wig to have a more straight bang in the front, with longer sideburns. Kinda in the style Yuki has in Fruits Basket manga. But the blown-in-the-wind or Cloud-Strife style just suits him better. All my fur wigged dolls have this sort of sidepart, I just have to succumb to it... There are always slight differences (although Alex and Fyrd are very similar) that just have to do.
I've gotten compliments on his eyes. Acrylics have their own strengths, like the visible iris pattern, but irl they look very dull. I use a lot of dodge tool in PS to get them to gleam like this. I'm still waiting for his own urethanes, which are going to be silvery-beige. Actually, I'll be waiting for them until October, I think. So good that I can fake it with these acrylics XD Although now I think that I might have ordered just ordinary 18mm eyes, I got him the wide iris type, since I really liked the look on Yuffie. But Fenny's eyes are not nearly as wide as Yuf's, who is a bulgy-eyed little girl (but adorable at that!). Well, he'll just be very doe-eyed then :D
This doll actually has so many good angles. If Volks does something very well, it's sculpting. I can take photos from full front, half profile, full profile (it just didn't suit the rest of these photos in mood), even slightly up-the-nose, like that first photo up there. It's an angle photographers are advised to avoid and let's face it, there are plenty of horrible up-the-nose shots out there, but it's not generally the only thing amiss in those photos. Flash doesn't help.
and this is it for Phoenix for now! He's tipping his hat for you for a goodbye and a see-ya-later :)
