New Paint

bedroom

Ever since we bought our place I've wanted to redo our two bedrooms. Now we finally have a good incentive to do it. Well, for me there has always been incentive and Valentine still thinks it is all a waste, but at least now I can make some demands about this XD

Bedroom:

Our current bedroom doesn't really have anything resebling a style, so I now want to make up for all these years. Although the rest of our place is pretty much dark brown and greens on white, I want to do something a little different for the bedroom. If I get my way, it is going to be different shades of turquoise/petrol on silver/dark brown. Dark brown in furniture mostly, since we already have so much of it. And are going to get more, once I get rid of Valentine's old office table and bookcase.

I want to make a head for the bed by doing just a srip of very show-off wallpaper, lined by dark brown (or aluminium, if I can get my hands on it) molding. then for the other wall, I want a silver paint base, on which to put bookshelves (no solid structure, just shelves to the wall) and a large mirror (not looking at the bed, you pervs :P). I would want to put a TV (since we have an extra flat screen that is pretty much unused atm) on the wall facing to the bed, but then we'll have to figure out some way to put it there...

And a freaking chandelier! I've wanted one for ages, and now I'll finally get it! My budjet won't go larger than 40cm though, but it's still something. and I apparently need a lot of decorative pillows, although I have no idea where to put them :D

Baby Room:

babyroom

I've had the idea for years that if I have use for a baby room for a Lil'Loki, I want it to be freshly white, with details in magenta pink and lime and some dark brown. Green/pink/chocolate just happens to go well with our livingroom and kitchen :P For a girl a bit more pink, for a boy a bit more green. I have tried other concepts as well, but I just don't want the room to be too 'themed' (as pirates or something) and I want it to hold for years. Mainly because it has taken me five years to finally squeeze some promise of this renovation from Valentine and I don't want to go through all that again the very next year. That is also why I'm choosing the furniture according to possible future use.

So, I'm thinking of a dark brown tree decal on one wall, where there is the dark brown crib and a comfy chair. The chair we already have, and the crib I have my eyes on can later be transformed into a kid sofa by taking out one wall (and adding more pillows). On the other wall, white furniture like the changing table (or later, a bookcase), shelves etc. With some photo frames or something with the pink/green. If we get a separate babylounger, I'm probably getting a Doomoo sitter, that can later be a bean bag for the kid.

The Mobile:

mobile ideas

I was putting this out of my head, but once I gave in and looked through Pinterest, I was swept away, just like I thought I would be... Well, I did have to put up a whole separate idea wall for this :D I knew I didn't want the regular commercial mobile, never mind how little use it'll actually get. I wanted something more whimsical, and I've found some themes that really please my eyes. If we get a girl, or the sex can't be determined through sonogram (in which case Valentine has said that he doesn't care what we get :P) I'll go for the rose/butterfly/totes romatic versions. If we'll be getting a boy, I'll tone it down to the clouds/fluffy balls/string balls.

  1. Wow, these plans look good! Especially the babyroom. I love that tree-decal idea and the mobiles. It's a good idea not to make the room too set on one theme, you can always do that with small things like posters and fabrics that are easy to take off if you want to change the theme into something else.

  2. Yeah, I've been contemplating between just the tree-decal or a decal + tree bookshelves. I've wanted branch-like bookshelves for myself ever since I saw them but Valentine didn't like the look. But it might work for a child :D

One part of me wants a wholly pirate themed room just for he heck of it... For the bright colours, a bed shaped like a boat, sails-and-clouds mobile, old rum bottles for fixes for bookshelves etc. But it wouldn't work in our apartment, plus it'd cost a fucking fortune!
